Philip is one of the most experienced airport advertising specialists worldwide. He came into the sector, joining Primesight (now PSI), one of the leading airport advertising buying agencies in 1980 - the start of what has become a passion for airports. He became Operations Director in 1986, with responsibility for the company's key clients and all media buying at airports world-wide.
In 1988, he was appointed founding Managing Director of Sky Sites (now JCDecaux Airports) and was able to use his experience with leading international advertisers to substantially increase revenues across BAA's 5 UK airports, including London Heathrow. At Sky Sites, Philip was also part of the management team that successfully tendered and negotiated the advertising rights at J.F.Kennedy International Airport, New York.
In 1994, Philip formed Compass International Media to assist airports, investors and their architects to optimise revenues from advertising. To date, Compass has worked with and on over 70 airports in all continents and is now widely regarded as the leading airport media consultancy in the world.
Philip also lectures on advertising at the annual Airport Commercial Revenue Development course at Cranfield University and is a frequent speaker at conferences and media events.
Steve became an Associate Director of Compass in 2010 and his knowledge of the trends in the wider outdoor, transport and retail advertising markets is invaluable in developing solutions for airports.
Steve joined the outdoor advertising industry in 1980 and in 1986, he established his own media company which was sold in 1997. He then set up The Outdoor Media Consultancy (TOMC) to advise how property portfolios can be developed as platforms for outdoor media. Through TOMC, Steve has represented the media interests of the UK's leading property owners and has been responsible for planning media networks for some of the world's foremost retail destinations, transport infrastructures and urban centres. His international work includes retail projects in India, United Arab Emirates and the USA and developing regulatory frameworks for a number of municipalities in the Middle East and Asia.
In his capacity as a consultant for Network Rail, Steve has had considerable experience in planning, developing and managing advertising sales contracts for the UK roadside and station estate. Most recently Steve managed the advertising tender for BAA's UK airports, including London Heathrow, the highest single value concession of its type in the world.
Julian joined Compass as an Associate Director in 2010 and adds a substantial knowledge resource to the company. He has extensive international experience in all aspects of Outdoor and Out of Home media with senior management roles at both agency and media owners, including MediaCom, British Transport Advertising (now CBS Outdoor), Maiden Outdoor (subsequently Titan) and Media Initiatives Group. Julian's experience includes business-to-business and business-to-consumer communications, commercial tendering, start-ups and project management.
As Sales and Marketing Director at British Transport Advertising, Julian was responsible for the development and revenue generation of all advertising sites across over 2000 rail stations including all major cities. At Media Initiatives, he launched the first experiential marketing opportunities across the main rail stations as well as station sponsorship packages.
Julian's international experience includes managing outdoor campaigns and establishing outdoor companies across Europe, particularly in Russia, Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
Consultancy projects include the management and submission of airport advertising tenders, setting up new outdoor businesses and the preparation of outdoor advertising master plans.
Karen joined Compass in 2004 and has over 20 years' experience buying, selling and consulting in airport advertising worldwide.
After graduating from L'Institut Francais du Royaume-Uni, Karen initially joined a specialist agency buying space in airports around the world on behalf of multinational clients including American Express, Philip Morris, MasterCard and United Distillers Group.
In 1990, Karen joined Sky Sites/JCDecaux Airport as Account Director responsible for managing the international clients at BAA airports and JFK Airport in New York. At JCDecaux Airport she was also appointed to co-ordinate the group's global airport network and her understanding of advertiser needs is a key element of her input to Compass projects.
